Simple Pleasures

Nicole Taylor
1.
Oh the beauty that lies
in the threads of daily life.
The simple, the ordinary.
A letter from a friend,
the compliment of a stranger,
the jacket-shedding first
warm day of spring,
a smile on my lips.

2.
Why does takeout
taste better in the
cardboard container?
Or ice cream right
out of the pint?
The container knows its novelty.
The uncouthness and
indulgence
enhance our experience.

3.
Happiness:
To bask in the sun,
to drive with the windows down,
to ride on a swing,
to walk barefoot in the grass,
to sit by the lake at night.
With you, moments turn to
rapt memory.
